Here at South Dakota Apologetics we are excited to be writing about an upcoming visitor to our state who is a well-known and accomplished apologist, Dr. Frank Turek! The Church fellowship, Sioux Falls First, has scheduled to bring him in February Sunday the 21st through Tuesday the 23rd. He will be speaking at the Sunday services, as well as doing his main sessions in the evenings of each of those days. You can get the full itinerary on our Events Page.
Dr. Turek is well known as an author of some of the most eye-catching apologetic books out there, which include I Don’t Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist and Stealing From God: Why Atheists Need God To Make Their Case. He has also debated well known atheists Christopher Hitchens and David Silverman, president of American Atheists. There are plenty more notable achievements by Dr. Turek which you can read on his website About Page.
What I would like to draw attention to is my experience with some of Dr. Turek’s material, as well as his Cross Examined Instructors Academy.
As a followup to his most well-known apologetics book, Dr. Turek released a twelve lesson DVD curriculum by a similar title: Why I Still Don’t Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist. I was first introduced to this course in 2013 by a dear friend and founder of Rapid City’s Ambassador Apologetics class, Aaron Knudson. He led the class through each lesson of the curriculum in the Fall of that year. I have to give Dr. Turek props for this course, as it was not simply helpful in instructing me in the knowledge I needed to be a faithful ambassador, but it was successfully designed in a way to easily remember the key points, so that I could walk out the door prepared. It’s extremely useful for everyday conversation. Dr. Turek did an outstanding job making the knowledge practical for the everyday Christian to memorize and have ready. All this to say that attending this event will most certainly be beneficial for any Christian who wishes to be a more effective ambassador for Christ.
Second, I’d like to briefly point the spotlight on the Cross Examined Instructors Academy (CIA for short). This is a three-day intensive program that trains aspiring apologists and ministry leaders how to present the material in I Don’t Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist as if it were their own, as well as engage with this knowledge in a hostile environment. By applying this kind of training in simulated real-world interactions, the students are forced to develop interactive skills in real-time as highly educated, trained and veteran apologists role-play the antagonists. These veteran apologists include the likes of J. Warner Wallace, Greg Koukl, Brett Kunkle, Dr. Richard Howe and of course Dr. Frank Turek. Needless to say, the students who sign up for this cannot be unprepared. Only those who are already well familiar with apologetics can apply for CIA and get accepted. If you are interested in applying, just keep in mind you must be dedicated to, and have spent time learning, material which we here at South Dakota Apologetics will point you to as we continue to grow.
To wrap things up, the event coming up next month with Dr. Frank Turek is something you should seriously consider attending. There are already groups from the Rapid City area planning to attend, so if you’re looking to save money and carpool, be sure to inquire on the Facebook Event Page. Many of us here at SDA are looking forward to this event and plan on going. Hope to see you there!
